The LowDown #92
Ninety-second installment of our weekly newsletter from the Team.
From the Team:
Another week closer to our big event on *repeat after me* Friday September 5th. Here is the link to our collab event with the inspiring, local vinyl label, Brooklyn Sway. Next week we are going to do a deep dive into the artists that are playing because they are MEGA (say it in a British Formula 1 accent). But for now… get that FREE happy hour ticket; that’s our time slot where we are bringing our guy Harry Fletcher (bottom right in the picture below) and he is holding it down from 6-9pm. He is so damn good plus your ticket will let you stay the whole night. We NEED you. Signal is one of the best clubs in the city, and for good reason. Help us help you by having another event here in the future.

Artist of the Week:
Chris Gooding

If you haven't heard the name Chris Gooding by now – learn it, because this man is here to stay. His energetic tracks with subtle yet driving basslines and hypnotic sounds will have your head bopping and your feet moving.
We had the chance to sit down with Chris ahead of this weeks edition to learn a bit more about what makes him tick. The Houston based DJ/Producer fell in love with music upon being gifted a stereo system from his grandfather and an AC/DC CD from his dad. As a kid/early teen Chris would sit in his living room listening to music rather than playing video games or watching television. On Friday nights, his local radio station would play live streams from the clubs in Houston – Chris’s first taste of the club. That eventually evolved into sneaking into Bauhouse to get a taste of the real thing, quickly leading to the infatuation with the dancefloor that so many of us share.
Being a lover of house is one thing, and being a producer of house music is something completely different. Chris had been producing beats and music for Hip Hop/Rap, Rock, and Pop artists for some time when him and a friend [now legally] went to see Michal Bibi at Bauhouse. After riding the rail for the entire set, Chris said to his friend “you know, if we time this right, we could probably meet him”. After patiently waiting by the back door, meet Michael they did. They snapped a photo or two, exchanged pleasantries but Chris had just one question he needed answered: “Where did you find all of those songs? I was Shazaming all night and nothing came up!” to which the Solod Grooves founder replied “Mate… I made ‘em”.
This marked Chris’s shift from house music lover to house music producer. He credits online resources and coaching for learning the basics of electronic music production; however, its his background other genres that shapes the way he now works as an artists. While many up and coming artists might spend hours sifting through vocal samples or plug-ins chris has never been afraid to pick up the mic or guitar and lay something down of his own. This has allowed him to become an absolute machine. With three releases out this year and several more on the way, Chris is firing on all cylinders.
Chris recalls another major turning point in his career coming in 2022 getting a track signed to Caddyshack Records on the same day as being fired from his job at NASA. Yes, space NASA. A glimmer of hope on what otherwise would have been a low point in his life. Fast Forward to 2025 and the kid from Houston had his track “My House” chart as high as 22 on Beatport’s top 100. When asked about the reception of that song specifically Chris told us that while he’d had industry support in the past, the fan support for “My House” was the most special. Stumbling upon videos of Josh Baker playing his tune in a random fan’s festival recap post particularly stuck out to him. In my mind, that fan support is only going to continue to grow in the months and years to come – so get on the train (or spaceship) now.

Event of the Week:
Marlie @ Outer Heaven
Look - it’s Labor Day Weekend. Some people come into NYC for the long weekend, but majority of our readers are IN NYC so you’ll probably just hit the road to a beach or a body water or whatever cool people like yourself do. Let’s keep it local on Thursday night.
I saw Marlie at Sunwaves in Romania (nbd) and she frickin’ killed it. Don’t believe me? Here’s proof!
Get a little action on Thursday night and then hit the road for the weekend. Not sure how the door at Outer Heaven works, but you should be fine. I wouldn’t buy a ticket in the link below. Just say you are friends of Bob Fencewood.
