The LowDown #91
Ninety-first installment of our weekly newsletter from the Team.
From the Team:
"You've heard me saying that smoking was my only vice"
I come to you this week with some news. Some very good, exciting, riveting news.
First piece I’d like to share with you, as we are a record label at our core, is that we have a date for our next release. And it’s with Sangster. Cloudy Sangster. As one of the pioneers of Low End Directive, he felt it was time to get a new release on the label and it’s seriously one of my favorite tunes he’s made. It’s a single titled “Playdate” and it will be out September 19th. Stay tuned.
Last week I emphasized that it’s imperative that you save the date: Friday September 5th. Well, the world is still turning so I am here this week to say that you need to save the date: Friday September 5th. There is officially a link for our next event where we are joining forces with the sage & sapient Brooklyn Sway, a local vinyl record label, at the hot club Signal in East Williamsburg. This is a huuuge opportunity for us and we need your support now more than ever. For as little as $1 a day….kidding. We are leading the charge on the happy hour slot so we just need you there. Click this link, reserve your spot, and come get DOWN. More info on it next week!

Artist of the Week:
Katermurr

Hailing from Basel, Switzerland, Katermurr is a producer whose deep, garage-inflected house sound is walking the line between soulful nostalgia and contemporary groove. We DIG his sound.
Emerging from Switzerland, Katermurr pairs a warm, analog sensibility with driving club energy. His EP Ella on Letters To Nina delivers a homage to classic deep house that evokes house's golden era. Listen to the distinctive basslines and evocative piano motifs.
Released earlier in 2024, the Beautiful Spirit EP on Barcelona’s DROP Dance Society served up perfect poolside vibes: the title track brims with soulful chords and emotive vocals, while High Life layers French house-style filters and loops over infectious rhythms ideal for late-night terraces.
By the numbers, Katermurr’s output has been prolific across respected digital platforms like Traxsource and Beatport. His releases regularly populate genres ranging from deep house to garage, and appear in curated compilations like Deep House Goodness Vol. 2 and Where House Meets Garage on The Base-ment Discos.
Here’s his full EP from The Base-ment Discos. We highly recommend giving it a proper listen.
What makes Katermurr unique is his ability to channel the emotional core of house music, all while keeping it fresh and functional for modern dancefloors. His music feels timeless, offering that warm familiarity while still pushing things forward.
If you're searching for house cuts that feel both grounded in tradition and ready for now, Katermurr delivers with laid-back confidence and a groove that lingers. We saved our favorite tracks for last. Enjoy!

Event of the Week:
Lady Starlight [Live] + Justin Cudmore / Mike Servito + Father Dukes / Jacky Sommer @ Public Records
I am sucker for the local label Major Records and you can get a little showcase at Public Records this weekend. Justin Cudmore and Mike Servito are in the Sound Room and Atrium, respectively, on Friday night. I can give you my absolute guarantee that you will have a fantastic time filled with numerous shazams. Funny story: I saw Justin and Mike on the tini and the gang boat party on July 4th weekend and prior to leaving the boat as it was pulling up to the port, I caught Justin right outside of the bathroom and totally jawed his ear off. He was really cool about it despite me being totally wasted by that point of the night. I proceeded to puke upon arrival of my uber.
