The LowDown #132
One-hundred and thirty second installment of our weekly newsletter from the Team.
From the Team:
The scent of smoky meats was absent from Brooklyn this weekend…and not because Mable’s Smoke House has gone out of business :(. Our very own David Quill, aka Quilliamsburg, hung up the tongs this weekend to travel to the coastal town of Shëngjin, Albania. Joined by powerhouse duo Jack Susser travelling from Colorado and LED’s A&R aficionado Lint travelling from Madrid, they joined forces at the Unum Festival for a weekend of dogs, digs and dyed soundroom. Hopefully we can get a full feature from one of them for next week’s edition.
Next, let’s get back to mixing! If you’re reading this and think you have or want to make an awesome mix from artists we’ve featured or that are lesser known, please reach out and see if we can get you posted on our SoundCloud! We want to promote DJs as much as possible and get that digital footprint up!

Artist of the Week:
Mathias Kaden
Instagram: @mathiaskaden
Mathias Kaden is one of Germany’s most respected underground electronic artists, a DJ and producer whose career spans more than two decades and over 4,000 performances worldwide. Raised between Jena and Gera in eastern Germany, Kaden discovered house and techno in the mid-1990s and quickly developed a reputation for his infectious energy, musical versatility, and ability to connect with a dancefloor regardless of the setting.
Unlike many artists defined by a single genre, Kaden has built his identity on movement between styles. His sets draw from house, minimal, techno, funk, dub, and percussion-heavy rhythms, often incorporating African and South American influences while maintaining a distinctly groove-driven approach. Whether opening a room, playing peak time, or closing a marathon session, his instinct for reading a crowd has become one of his defining strengths.
A key figure in Germany’s electronic scene since the early 2000s, Kaden first gained attention through his collaborations with Marek Hemmann on the influential Jena label Freude am Tanzen before developing his own solo sound through a series of acclaimed releases on Vakant. Since then, he has released music on leading labels including Rekids, Desolat, Ovum, Watergate Records, Pets Recordings, Moon Harbour, and many others, earning a reputation for musical sophistication.
Alongside his original productions, Kaden has become a sought-after remixer, reworking tracks for artists such as DJ Koze, Trentemøller, Matthias Tanzmann, Anja Schneider, Monika Kruse, Kink, and Super Flu.
The track titled “I Got You” is most certainly our favorite off his latest album release.
Away from the studio, Kaden has long been deeply involved in the culture that shaped him. He spent seven years as a resident at the legendary Muna Club, supported emerging artists through the Freshblood initiative, and helped organize the influential Klanglauf events at Kassablanca in Jena.
What has kept Mathias Kaden relevant for so long is his refusal to stand still. From early minimal house experiments to the broader, more eclectic sound he champions today, his music remains rooted in groove, personality, and a genuine love for the dancefloor. More than twenty-five years after buying his first turntables, he continues to be regarded as one of electronic music’s most distinctive and enduring selectors.

Event of the Week:
Patrick Topping / Trick @ The Ruins
If you've never seen Pat Topping live, I seriously suggest heading to The Ruins this Friday. What better way to blow off steam from the week than to go straight to Maspeth and hear "Forget" play…hopefully 5 times.

Mix of the Week:
DIM340 - Pancratio
“For DIM340 we’re very pleased to welcome Gian AKA Pancratio. His standout Automatic House LP on Faith Beat last year turned many heads and was heard several times over the weekend at Dimensions 2025, but the Italian-born, Berlin-based artist has been prolific for some time, not least through his excellent onetriptoavyon label.
Here he presents an hour inspired by pumping yet warm US deep house, conceived as the soundtrack to those energising moments spent with friends before arriving at the club.”
