The LowDown #126
One-hundred and twenty sixth installment of our weekly newsletter from the Team.
From the Team:
"I say, we can dance, we can dance”
I said last week and I’ll say it again…
Friday. May 15th. Apollo Studio.
We are collabing with friends/local collective called E’Klektik for our event at Apollo Studio. Why not join forces to make the party bigger and better?
We are full steam ahead towards May 15th and I think it is only right that I mention the lineup. We have two people truly headlining the night; Poggio & m.O.N.R.O.E. Plus Harry Fletcher and Jared Maharaj will fill in the gaps with opening and closing duties. We will do a deep dive into the full lineup, but here is a little summary on the headliners. Poggio is a French selector that has been on a killing in the Paris underground scene. He is the co-founder of a label out of Paris and his sound is eclectic, dark and tangible; sounds like a Chardonnay! m.O.N.R.O.E. (aka Jordan) is a domestic producer and DJ that has been traveling with the Apollonia crew. Even though he is American and lives in Miami, he is really tied into the French underground scene which makes this a perfect collab. He will have your hips shaking at Apollo!
Flyer and tickets may be available this week, but will definitely be in next week’s edition. Keep you posted!

Artist of the Week:
Andre Zimmer

Andre Zimmer is a Canadian producer/DJ who emerged in 2021 and is currently based in Berlin. He got his start in the underground scenes of Toronto and Montreal, but his background goes a bit further than that. He’s described himself at various points as a Canadian bushwhacker, which is someone who spent a good amount of time doing the kinds of things the Canadian outdoors demands of you before falling into online rabbit holes that led him toward dance culture. In a feature by Hinterhaus Berlin he’s cited as having attended a bush doof deep in the Whistler backcountry, which as somebody who has attended one myself, can see how that kind of experience opens your ears to something different about music and community.
Alongside his own output he founded Big Trouble Records, which has put out nothing but exciting and powerful releases so far. The label is set to do big things. I recommend getting some vinyls early!
My introduction to Andre came in 2024 with his “Sound Survives” single on Time Is Now Records. Right off the bat you can hear the UK garage influence, and it made me want to dig into his discography.
His sound has an old-school quality to it, something that feels like it could have come from the 90s, and that’s largely because of how he actually builds his tracks. He works with old records and sounds as raw material, pulling in a diverse range of influences that stay well clear of mainstream house. He also uses synths, pianos, and other hardware, which gives his productions a warmth that pure software production tends to lack. The ambient, downtempo, and proggy music he listens to comes through clearly in his work too, especially on his last EP Swamp Circuit EP. Great name, could also double as a Mario Kart track.
His approach to music is genuinely broad. He’s taking in sounds from all types of genres and time periods and finding ways to blend them without it feeling forced.
The Saved My Life EP is what fully got me hooked though. He teased snippets on Instagram that I had on repeat, and then there was a period where it was up on Bandcamp but you couldn’t buy it, so I’d just sit on the page and listen. Bandcamp is great, the mobile experience is not, worth it though (bad take - george). But the EP itself is a masterpiece and delivered on everything those snippets promised. It’s the clearest example of what makes his music worth paying attention to, a raw and genuine approach built from years of serious listening across scenes and eras, and bringing all of that into something that sounds like his own. Also, amazing work on the piano that cannot be ignored.

Event of the Week:
Pre-Opening Day Party @ Solana Park
Solana Park is a new outdoor venue in East Williamsburg and it’s officially opening it’s doors this weekend. Looking at the forecast, this weekend isn’t too favorable but on Sunday though…right when the weather is peak, head on over to Solana Park, which is near all the usual suspects in East Williamsburg. Cinco de Mayo themed plus some good local DJs. It’s free before 5pm too. I guarantee they will have frozen margaritas.
