The LowDown #114
One-hundred and fourteenth installment of our weekly newsletter from the Team.
From the Team:
"All day long I think of things, but nothing seems to satisfy"
So long, January. Time flies when you’re having fun, and we’ve had nothing but buckets of it in NYC. Producers are pumping out tracks left and right, the streets are filled with snow, and we’ve got new shirts!
We dropped new tees on Monday, and we are very thankful for those who waited patiently to purchase one after our garment hiatus. That being said, we intend for this to be the last time we leave our shelves unstocked for months on end. We’ve got more colorways in store, so if you miss your chance to get a tee this time around (you might, supplies are limited), we’ll have a fresh colorway on the horizon.
We really do appreciate the support! Every dollar goes right back into the biz and helps keep the wheels turning.
Shoutout Cloudy Sangster, you the man.

I believe Sir George is off roasting chestnuts in the Alps right now, so I’ll be filling in for him this week on “Your Favorite Song Was Sampled.”
If you have been listening to house music for at least 60-90 days and you haven’t heard “Forget” by Patrick Topping from his 2014 “Boxxed Off EP,” you are surely going down the wrong path (feel free to speak with one of our representatives, we can get you back on track). This song is a staple and has stood the test of time, remaining one of the biggest releases to ever come out of Hot Creations. It has one of the most memorable basslines, mixed with erotic noises and lyrics you can never seem to decipher. It’s a hoot when you’re lucky enough to hear it played out live, and if you keep it mixed in with your playlists, it will bring you joy every time.
I don’t know how Patrick pulled this one together, but hell of a job he did. Let’s start off with that repeating laugh you hear as the drops start to roll in. Very wild element of the song that distinctly kind of lingers in your head while you wait for the next one to come around. That sound is actually from the intro to an Italo disco track titled “Take a Chance” by Bizzy & Co. Bizzy & Co. is an Italo disco group from 1982 whose claim to fame was apparently getting their hit “Take a Chance” to be the intro song for Italian Premiatissima, which seems to be an Italian version of American Idol.
The video is absurd, but give it a watch. I actually think “Forget” would go well over this video, and if you wait until 1:55 you will see a cast of characters that slightly resembles the type of people who show up at our events.
Next, we have those excellent vocals that I can never seem to know fully. They’re lifted from 1988 niche hit “Chica Cubana” by Laurie, an Italo/Eurodance track that seemed to be notable at one point in time. You can find them around 2:20.
Very interesting to see how the track was inspired by Italo disco. While it feels entirely tech housey, once you get a flicker of this perspective it does kind of come together and make sense.
Though both samples had their bits of fame, “Forget” clears with 18 million streams and the award for Best Single at DJ Mag’s Best of the British Awards.

Artist of the Week:
Overworked
Instagram: @overworked.us
Every so often, an artist emerges from the U.S. underground with a sound so dialed into the late‑night minimal aesthetic that you can immediately tell they’re operating on a different wavelength. Overworked (US) is one of those artists. Based in Los Angeles and rooted in the Southern California scene, he’s quickly become a name that DJs, label heads, and dancers alike that are monitoring.
Overworked’s tracks are built on tight, rolling low‑end foundations, hence the perfect artist to highlight this week. He crafts the kind of details you only catch on a good system at 3 a.m. Oh yeah baby.
Across releases on UVAR, Rawsome Deep, Front Left Recordings, Whoyostro, IWANT Music, and Arbooreal Records, he’s carved out a catalog that’s both consistent and evolving.
What makes Overworked compelling isn’t just the quality of his releases, but the sense that he’s building something brick by brick. There’s intention behind every track, every collaboration, every label choice. It doesn’t go unnoticed.
He’s part of a new wave of U.S. minimal artists who are elevating the sound with craftsmanship rather than hype. If you’re a DJ who gravitates toward clean, rolling, late‑night grooves Overworked is absolutely one to watch. It feels as though his trajectory is only beginning, so expect his name to keep popping up in playlists, charts, and lineups throughout 2026 and beyond.
