The LowDown #101
One-hundred and first installment of our weekly newsletter from the Team.
From the Team:
"He’s picked at fifth and Euclid Avenue”
What a weekend in New York City. Halloween falling on a weekend. NYC marathon on Sunday. Tame Impala in town. Nick Sullivan is turning 31. Zane Piedmont Lang making an appearance. Endless festivities. As Noah Murray would say, this weekend is GOATED. Great edition for you this week with a proper Artist to highlight, cool event to check out on Sunday and a jumping mix.

Artist of the Week:
Dam Swindle
Instagram: @damswindle
You’ve seen this name featured numerous times on our weekly top 10 list and mix of the week. We are big fans of this Dutch duo, long before their name change from “Detroit Swindle” to “Dam Swindle.” Let’s pay some respect by giving Lars Dales and Maarten Smeets a full AOTW feature! Grab your morning coffee and let’s dig in!
These guys look way too cool. It’s probably because they have become a quietly formidable force in the electronic-music world since their breakthrough nearly 15 years ago.
Dam Swindle’s musical journey began rooted in a deep love for soul, disco and house classics. Dales and Smeets grew up digging records, turning that collector’s curiosity into a production and DJ career. Their earliest works, like “The Wrap Around” and “The Break Up”, signaled that they were not just house producers, but sound-curators with a wide palette.
One of the major ways Dam Swindle has impacted the scene is through their label, Heist Recordings, founded around 2013. This wasn’t just another imprint: it became a nurturing ground for emerging talent and a platform for genre-blurring releases. By championing artists who didn’t fit neatly into existing label sounds, they helped expand what house music could mean.
For the global house and dancefloor community, Dam Swindle represent a model of how staying true to roots doesn’t mean stagnation. Their story shows how respect for tradition plus willingness to explore yields fresh, vital music. Their label work, curatorial instincts and musical output all feed into a larger narrative: the underground is alive, adaptive and willing to cross boundaries.
Dam Swindle latest EP on Heist, released last Friday. Superb sounds!
The energy they create on the dancefloor is so welcoming, engaging, and fun. Their DJ sets reflect a flow that moves between disco, acid, breaks, soul and techno. They’re known as record-diggers, and their sets reward deep attention. If you are lucky enough to have seen Dam Swindle work the decks, then I am sure you would agree.
Fun fact: Early in their career, the duo cite a particular venue in Amsterdam — Club 11 (located above Central Station) — as having a big influence on them: “An old building and then suddenly, coming up with the elevator you’d enter this beautiful open space with big windows … it always felt like we had a little bit of Berlin in Amsterdam.”
I’ll close by sharing with you my favorite Dam Swindle track. Shoutout to Cut Snake for introducing me to it back on Cut Snake & Mates 14 (on Soundcloud). Listening is mandatory as it will help you get through hump day, guaranteed.

Event of the Week:
NYC Marathon Sunday @ Eavesdrop
Halloween weekend is overwhelming. Every fucking place with a roof is having an event. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of good ones out there. But you probably have Halloween plans. And that’s fine, I am not judging you for going to that furry party. But let’s not forget that Sunday is the NYC marathon. While you may have parties to go to after the race to celebrate that friend who finished in just over 6 hours, head on out to Greenpoint to get the day rolling. Eavesdrop is having a block party with some free coffee, DJs, merch, Arnold Schwarzenergger, you name it. Hang out in the sun (hopefully) and cheer on the runners as they fly by starting at 10am. Then you can hop on the G to Court square, transfer to the E or M, and boom you are uptown like Christy Brinkley.
Mix of the Week:

Since 1996, Amsterdam Dance Event has been bringing together electronic dance music professionals and enjoyers to one city (a very cool city at that). As another successful ADE comes to a close, let’s celebrate with an excusive mix from Berlin house connoisseur, Cinthie!
